Once a Year!

There are so many Christmas chef programmes that you could pre record and then sit down and watch continous cookery specials for a whole evening, or perhaps even two. On Christmas Day there is a live one from Gordon's home, complete with children and wife, so you can watch how he does it - lifestyle more than recipes?

I love all cookery programmes and magazines (but Xmas Day is a step too far) and always collect a pile of new ideas to try out. But the main event is always a traditional feast; the only year there were three of us we had duck and the child at home was most upset. This year I am don't seem to be in the mood for too much experimentation. So I am filling the freezer with those reliable things that come out just one a year plus some back up food:

Christmas Ring Cake - you could even make this on Xmas Eve as it is so easy, doesn't not need to be kept and is as popular as any traditional one
Sausage Rolls made with butchers sausage meat with some grated onion and chopped sage mixed in plus quick flaky pastry
Cheese Straws
Mince pies - obviously - I make ones with sweet short crust (mixed with egg and a little sugar added)and some with quick flaky
Soups - Carrot and Butter Bean, Tomato and Rice and a new one, Celeriac and Apple which I will write up if it is good
Coffee Praline Icecream Bombe
Lemon and Chocolate tart - made ages ago and now tried again - if it delights I will put it on the blog
Uncooked quiche cases
