Pears

Quarter ripe pears and lay in a baking dish

Dot with butter and sugar - for 4 pears about 2 oz sugar and 3 oz butter

Add 6 tablespoons water

Bake N0 6/200 for about 30 mins or until they look slightly caramelised.

As you serve, pour over some cream.

If the pears are less than perfectly ripe, cook more slowly; if they don't taste very fulsome, add a little lemon juice.

This is simple, quite cheap and can be impressive if you want it to be.
